KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 — Police have claimed they treated the arrested Bersih rally protesters well despite being under duress throughout the day.
Those detained received both food and medical attention in comfortable facilities until 1130pm, according to Bernama Online.
Kuala Lumpur acting police chief Datuk Amar Singh said today the detainees were treated better than the policemen on duty yesterday.
Most of the 1,697 detained protesters were taken to Police Training Centre (Pulapol) on Jalan Semarak. The rest were either allocated to Jinjang police station or Cheras Police Academy. All were released after their statements were recorded.
The detained comprised 1,527 men, 154 women and 16 children.
Pulapol commandant Zulkifli Mohamed said the protesters’ welfare was always considered in order not to smirch the good name of Malaysia.
He added the detainees gave positive feedback and some thanked for the treatment they received.
Zulkifli said it seemed more like a wedding ceremony yesterday food, prayer space, medical treatment were provided by Pulapol staff.
Amar said the buffet for the protesters cost RM25 per head.
The food included nasi minyak, nasi briyani, fried mee, fried meehoon and drinks.
